Carrickfergus is one of the oldest settlements in Northern Ireland, based around the Norman Castle which survives today, and St Nicolas' Norman Church, both completed in the 12th Century. Also ripe for exploration in the town are the Marina and Harbour, the Gasworks Museum, Andrew Jackson Cottage, and the remains of the Medieval Walls which once encircled the Town.
Much of the town can be explored on foot from the Hotel which is very centrally located. The Lough Shore Hotel (formerly known as the Clarion Hotel, Carrickfergus) is ideally situated for exploring Northern Ireland, the Causeway Coastal Route, Belfast City and indeed Carrickfergus town itself.
